New Liberalism Launch

Matthew Kalkman released New Liberalism this past weekend at Liberal International's 187th seminar and reception in London, UK. Members of government from thirty-six countries around the world came to attend the Liberal International Executive Committee meeting in London on the 14th and 15th of October. Liberal International is the world federation of Liberal political parties. Delegates included ministers, members of parliament, leaders of Liberal Parties aroundthe globe, and well regarded academics.

New Liberalism lays out the argument that one hundred years after the last major shift in liberalism comes a new dynamic--a reflection of the deeper understanding that we have a responsibility to preserve the freedom we enjoy today for future generations.

The  book is endorsed by the President of Liberal International, as well as the former Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, and Professor Anne Pearson the granddaughter of former Prime Minister Lester Pearson.

New Release: New Liberalism by Matthew Kalkman

One hundred years ago, liberalism was modernized to tackle the challenges of the time. Today, liberalism must again be renewed to ensure freedom is protected for future generations. For a society to be maintained and evolve, the notion of a common humanity extending to all people on this planet needs to be embraced.

Matthew Kalkman earned an LL.B. from Durham and MSc. from the London School of Economics. His writings have been published in the Cambridge Student Law Review and the Inter Alia Law Journal. After studying French at ULaval, he returned to his hometown of Vancouver where he presently works in environmental law.

"Kalkman's concept is of much interest to all who want an effective state characterized by free, empowered citizens who have the possiblity to shape their own futures . . . It is a must read."
-Hans van Baalen, MEP
President of Liberal International

Making Sense of Us: If we human beings are to participate knowingly in the continuing evolution of our species rather than unknowingly in its extinction, it's crucial we understand that the sense we make depends on how we make it. But, it also depends on our being aware that it's we - together - who determine how we make the sense we do.

John De
